The Judge President, Hon. Justice Nestor Kayobera, along with the Principal Judge, Hon. Justice Yohane Masara, visited China as part of a program organized by the African Institute of International Law to promote cooperation between African judiciaries and the Chinese judiciary. Chief Justices from Botswana, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, and Mozambique were also in attendance.

This inaugural joint visit by African Chief Justices serves as a vital link to foster friendship, mutual trust, establish working relationships, and encourage long-term cooperation between China and African judiciaries, heralding a new era of judicial collaboration.

Their Lordships had the opportunity to tour several courts in Beijing, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou. Here, they gained insights into China’s modern judiciary operations, experienced the high-quality court infrastructure, and witnessed the integration of information technology in the justice delivery system to enhance efficiency.

The East African Court of Justice looks forward to leveraging the opportunities for collaboration presented by the visit to China.
